Sichuan Opera Collection

We recorded these from the audience seats of Chengdu opera theatres, close enough to hear the tambourine skin stretch before every beat. The collection follows a night at the opera: the opening drum that asks the room for silence, Mu Guiying taking command, a warrior's cry, and the moment every tourist waits for — the face changes in a blink and the band never stops.
